Senior Cloud Engineer (Networking), Infra

ABOUT AIRWALLEX Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system for a real-time, intelligent economy. More than 675,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok, use us, directly or through our platform partners, to run their financial operations or build and monetize financial products of their own. We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,700 people across 27 offices. We hire builders with founder-level energy, people who move fast with good judgment, dig in with real curiosity, and make calls from first principles rather than waiting to be told what to do. Read our operating principles https://www.airwallex.com/en-us/operating-principles to see it in full.   HOW YOU'LL MAKE IMPACT As Airwallex scales its globally distributed financial platform, you'll help build the cloud networking foundations that keep our infrastructure highly available, secure, and connected across regions and providers. - Design, build, and optimise highly available, multi-account, and multi-region AWS and GCP cloud network architectures, including Layer 3 routing, Transit Gateway, Shared VPC, Cloud Router, and Direct Connect. - Automate and manage global cloud network infrastructure using Terraform through Git-driven CI/CD pipelines. - Manage BGP routing, IPsec VPNs, and dynamic cloud routing between AWS, GCP, regional points of presence, and external banking partners under strict financial regulatory requirements. - Improve the reliability and visibility of cloud networking by serving as an escalation point for complex issues and participating in a global on-call rotation. - Partner with Security, DevOps, and Platform teams to build secure landing zones and automated network controls. You'll work from our Singapore office WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR ESSENTIALS - Hands-on experience designing and operating AWS network environments at scale, including VPC, Transit Gateway, route tables, Direct Connect, and AWS Network Firewall. - Proficiency in Terraform or equivalent infrastructure-as-code tools for provisioning and automating cloud network components. - Practical experience with GCP networking concepts, including Shared VPC and Cloud Router, or experience working in multi-cloud environments. - Familiarity with Linux distributions, Python or Bash scripting, and CI/CD pipelines. - Strong knowledge of core routing and switching, subnetting, TCP/IP, and BGP dynamic routing principles. - An associate-level networking certification, or equivalent hands-on experience. Examples include CCNA, JNCIA-Junos, HCIA, Aruba ACA, Network+, AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty, or GCP Professional Cloud Network Engineer. PREFERRED - Experience in fintech, local banking, or high-concurrency and high-availability financial networks with strict information security requirements. - Familiarity with GCP-preferred architectures. - Advanced certifications such as CCNP, JNCIP, AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty, or equivalent. - Experience integrating AI-assisted workflows and modern operational tools. YOU'LL THRIVE HERE IF - You're comfortable owning the roadmap yourself. - You own the outcome and you don't wait for permission to fix what's broken. - You're comfortable operating across time zones with a globally distributed team, including colleagues based in APAC and EMEA. - You over-communicate by design. You'd rather flag something early than let it become a surprise. - You simplify complexity rather than hiding behind it. LEARN MORE ABOUT YOUR TEAM Infrastructure & Productivity at Airwallex builds the technical foundation that allows our global engineering organization to scale. Our customers are our fellow engineers, and our mission is to make their daily work faster, safer, and more effective by managing the core platforms everyone relies on, from Kubernetes and Kafka to CI/CD pipelines and observability systems. The real challenge lies in keeping these global systems highly reliable and secure while simultaneously optimizing cloud costs, automating manual support, and driving standardization without slowing down product delivery. We operate under the philosophy that best practices should be the path of least resistance, not a forced mandate. If you're a systems thinker who wants to work close to the core of the company and directly shape how we build, deploy, and scale software worldwide, this is where that work happens.
